THIS IS
Meltonic
We accelerate the adoption of high-performance metal additive manufacturing by connecting research, engineering and industrial application in an open innovation ecosystem.
Our facility in Haarlem is equipped with a Freemelt ONE research platform, one of the few open-architecture EB-PBF systems in Europe. The system provides full access to process parameters, enabling collaborative research, material qualification and application development beyond the limitations of closed industrial platforms. This allows process development and qualification for new materials, enabling feasibility studies and application-driven material development.
Bridging research
and industrial application
High-performance metals are becoming increasingly important for the next generation of energy systems, semiconductor equipment, aerospace and defence technologies. Yet many organisations struggle to adopt these materials because process knowledge, experimental facilities and application expertise remain difficult to access.
Meltonic was established to bridge this gap. As the high-performance metals programme of the 3DMZ Smart Industry Field Lab, we help organisations explore, develop and validate applications using Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion. By combining engineering, research and an open innovation ecosystem, we reduce technical risk and accelerate industrial adoption.
An open innovation ecosystem
Innovation in advanced manufacturing cannot be achieved by a single organisation. Meltonic brings together industry, research institutes and public organisations to develop knowledge, validate new applications and accelerate the adoption of high-performance metal additive manufacturing.
Our ecosystem combines industrial use cases with scientific expertise, advanced manufacturing facilities and application testing, creating an environment where ideas can move efficiently from research towards industrial implementation.
Built in Europe,
for European sovereignty
The components that matter most for Europe’s security, energy and high-tech industries depend on materials and manufacturing that few places can deliver. Refractory metals, high-performance alloys and the processes to shape them have long relied on supply chains outside European control.
Meltonic is one of the few open, field-lab environments in Europe where industry, research and government can experiment freely with EB-PBF for these materials. Not behind the closed doors of a single manufacturer, and not dependent on parameters someone else controls. Here, partners develop, validate and qualify the high-performance components Europe needs to build on its own terms.
This is what strategic autonomy looks like in practice: the capability to design, test and produce critical components inside Europe, with the knowledge to keep doing so.
